Web Based Application Considerations
When using web based applications, it is often tempting to make
them available over the internet, rather than just being restricted
to use on the corporate network.
Making these applications available externally will allow any of
your users to access the application when they are away from the
office. However it is important to be aware that doing this will
greatly increase the risk of becoming a vector for malicious
attack.
When setting an application to be available externally, please
ensure that the following items are considered at the very
least.
- Use SSL for all communications
- Ensure complex passwords are used (all default
system passwords are changed)
- Steps are taken to ensure Search Engines do not index the pages
(robot.txt file etc)
- Monitor the site connections for suspicious activity
Sun4 Datalink v10.009.018
Please be aware that datalink v10.009.018 for Sun4.x has been
recalled by Touchstone.
This version was never officially released by us, and we don't
believe that any of our clients have received this from us.
However, there is a problem within this datalink that makes it
impossible to run reports against Sun's budget ledgers.
If you find that you do have this datalink, please contact the Help
Desk and we can arrange for your datalink to be upgraded.
Applying SunSystems
Patchsets
When applying SunSystems patchsets (for Sun
4.4, Sun 5.x and Infor10), it is essential to ensure that the SQL
Compatibility Mode of the Sun databases is set to the native mode
of the SQL Server version being used.
Failure to do this may result in the patching process failing, and
require the databases to be restored to the last known good SQL
Backup.
Vision QA10.1.0 - Cannot Change Default Printer
A bug exists with QA10.1.0 whereby it is not possible to print
to anything other than the Windows Default Printer. As such,
Touchstone will not release this version of Vision QA10.1.x
until the bug is fixed.
Fixed in QA10.1.1
Vision QA10.0.4 - Bug with Protected Workbooks
A problem has been identified within Vision QA10.0.4 whereby all
data on the worksheet will be cleared (deleted) if the workbook is
protected.
Please note that Excel has a concept of workbook protection, and of
worksheet protection.
It is the workbook protection that causes this problem.
Vision 5.x moves to limited support
Vision 5 has moved into limited support by the software authors.
The OLD addin (often appears in brackets on the menu items) is no
longer supported at all, the NEW Addin only has limited support and
is not compatible with newer versions of Office and Windows. Email
helpdesk@touchstone.co.uk
for more information on the upgrade path to Vision 6 \ QA 10.x.
Inside Out Suite moves to limited support
The Inside Out suite of products is no longer
being developed by the software authors. It will not be available
on upgrades to 4.3.x and 5.x. Whilst Touchstone will continue
to provide telephone support, there is unlikely to be any patch
releases or bug fixes.
There are a number of alternative swap out products that should be
considered, please contact support or your account manager for
further information. (This affects all Inside Out products
including Bank Reconciliation, Financial Reporting and Financial
Entry).
